Plot Run down:

Los Angeles denizen Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) survives by scavenging and petty theft. He stumbles into a new career as a cameraman and — armed with a camcorder and police scanner — begins nocturnal foray into filming awful accidents and crimes to sale to the highest bidder after a few great videos only he can get is put into a position of power and starts using it to his advantage.

My thoughts:

The character Gyllenhaal plays is a dark one and almost to smart for his own good he reminds me a lot of like that annoying guy you run into drunk at a party or out in a bar that gives you a creepy vibe and always wants to talk super close and your not sure if he is gonna kill you or take you out back and suck you off. He plays it well his acting is great. It comes across like you can feel his creepy eyes and breath on you.
As you dive deeper into his role and the character its almost sureal its almost like he never sleeps and as the movie goes on his appreance becomes more gaunt and darker a lot of great shots as well it makes LA look like a b role for Taxi driver but uses the locations well and makes the bright sunny state look dark and seedy.

The supporting cast is well rounded as well while it is mostly very focused on Gyllenhaal as Lou we have Rene Russo as adirector of a local TV station, Nina Romina and a fellow “stringer” in Bill Paxton in the role of Joe Loder. Both give good performances with Russo shining the brightest with her exchanged with Gyllenhaal.

Top moments:
All in all the pace is quick and the violence shown is well done so it does impact you as a viewer the driving stunts are awesome and it does hook you from the start. I have to say though the moment that grabbed me the most When Louis starts to test his power with his work an invites her out on a date she can’t refuse the exchange is great both show off the chops here both strong actors in great written roles.
So its great to see them spar verbally.

Where the flick fails in my eyes is with the ending its self I will not spoil it here but I think to build up this guy as a creep as all the horrible things he pulls then to end it on the note it does is lackluster at best. I also dislike his side kick and co-worker or “employ” as he treats him they guy is not the greatest actor and is lost in the strength of Louis as a character you are supposed to feel for the guy but he keeps coming back and then at the crest of action for the film you are supposed feel things for this character who you don’t care for or I didn’t anyway.

The Wrap up and rating:

I would recomend you all add this film to your cue and give it a watch its got great action and the acting from ole Donnie Darko is great he put a lot into this role and him and Russo are great on screen as well as his rival Joe played by Paxton…..

I rate this on a netflix scale of 3 stars or really liked it as they say. So add to your cue and give Nightcrawler a spin and let Donnie Darko slide his greasy ass fingers up your skirt and pinch your knees. With his great role in this film.
