Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) — Eric Rohmer, a French director and leading “New Wave” filmmaker whose pictures fed art-house screens starting in the 1960s and held sway over cinema enthusiasts ever since, has died. He was 89.
He died today, Agence France-Presse reported, citing his producer, Margaret Menegoz.
R.I.P
Rohmer said his stylized features were more popular in the U.S. at first than in France, but also were often misunderstood as talky intellectual exercises.
Films such as “My Night at Maud’s” (1969), “Claire’s Knee” (1970) and “Love in the Afternoon” (1972) belied their sexy titles as principal characters filled their angst-ridden nights with endless moralizing.
For Rohmer, it all conformed to a personal vision: to make films portraying the inner lives of characters without adding extraneous drama — thereby provoking pot-shots from critics and even other filmmakers.
he UK’s CHANNEL 4 sat down with Sigourney Weaver to discuss her current role in James Cameron’s AVATAR and got what is either the biggest GHOSTBUSTERS 3 scoop so far – or just a HUGE piece of bait to throw eager ‘BUSTERS fans off the proper trail.
See the video below for an excerpt from their interview, but beware to those who wish to stay “Spoiler Free”. If true, these hints at the new movie could be MAJOR plot points, especially in regards to Bill Murray’s involvement and the fate of Oscar, Weaver’s on-screen son last seen in GHOSTBUSTERS II.
Well that might be a stretch but Rob Zombie did tell the Chicago Tribune today that his next film will not be horror. Rob says “If you go down that road too far, it’s hard to break out of it. I don’t want to get stuck with anything. I want the freedom to do what I want to do.”…
So this guy who proclaims to be the biggest horror fan who shit upon Halloween is done with “his” genre. At least that means he isn’t remaking the blob his next movie will be as he said later on in the interview Tyrannosaurus Rex slated for a 2013 release I almost want 2012 to happen haha. So far the plot is said to be A 1970s-set story of an ex-con boxer with self-tendencies who gets caught up in an underground fight ring.
I checked up on it and as it stands the only known cast member for this film is….yup you guessed it Sherri Moon Zombie…If you wanna break away from doing the same ole same ole don’t you think you might want to expand the cast of your films? Sherri must let him go ass to mouth every time he cast her. Just saying. Eat a dick Rob.
The trailers hooked me into the movie. They where playing everywhere and I bought into it hook line and sinker I usaly don’t buy into over hyped Hollywood jive especially when it comes to horror films now days its either remake remake shit on FZR nostalgic love for this film and its original story or some bullshit pg-13 emo vampire love shit trying to pass its self off as horror.
With this film though I was hooked after seeing the trailer about 3 times. Like Wow this could be something worth seeing. So I give Megan Fox and all her hotness a shot make me happy Jennifer’s Body give me blood and a little Megan Fox breast shot and some good Diablo Cody dialogue this will make for a fun horror flick by no means a classic just a fun romp. Before I go on let me give you a plot synopses I’m not gonna spoil much so no need for a spoiler alert here really.
Plot:
You have Needy(Amanda Seyfried) an unlikely best friend to a very popular flag girl in school whose name is Jennifer(Megan Fox),”best friends since the sandbox” they are so close in fact they own two very lame heart necklaces with BFF carved into them. None the less they go to a lame Emo ass rock show of a band called “Low Shoulder” Where the front man Nikolai Wolf (Adam Brody) plays some lameness and flirts with Jennifer and then a fire breaks out kills the people in the bar they where at. He ends up taking Jennifer to the woods for a little kill the virgin for Satan for the fortune and fame thus begins the story of the film she is a demon now hell bent on the need to feed so thus she kills A good bit of high school fodder.
“OK now on to my Review. Spoiler towards the end I will let you know when its coming up.”
Review:
right out of the gate I can tell overall this is fun movie and its worth a watch. Is it as good as I was hoping not in the least bit. It bored me in some parts and made laugh out loud in others. For it to be hyped up as super sexy it really wasn’t. I mean you seen no nudity Megan Fox is not topless so if that’s what you are going to see if for its not here you can find picture of her topless floating on the net. I found them in a quick Google search with the safe filter off in like one second.
The Good: Diablo Cody’s dialogue is funny I loved it in Juno I love it here she writes very well and it is hilarious in some key parts in the movie. The kiss with Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried I dare one man or women to watch that and not be turned on.
The Deaths are good Megan Fox is the prefect Demon/Black Widow. Needy is hotter then Megan Fox. That’s not a statement about the film I just thought I need to say that haha.
The Bad: At times I felt bored during the movie. Like it was old territory we had been down before. Sacrifice A Demon Whiny high school kids dying. The misfit being the only person to save the day its old hat at this point. At times it just made me feel like I have been here before like Deja Vu. The Ending is predictable here comes the spoiler
Needy kills Jennifer with a box cutter after she kills her Boyfriend in some abandoned pool they try and throw you off with a little zinger at the end when Needy who is locked in the nut house after killing her ex-Demon Best-ie has super powers due to the fact that Jennifer bites her on the neck and breaks out to seek her revenge on O.C. Brody and LOW SHOULDER In context you are like wow that sounds great but you know its coming the whole film pretty much…End of the Spoiler
Overall Jennifer’s body is fun and funny in some parts but for the most part for horror fans its going to feel like you have seen it all before and you really have. Is it worth a watch by all means yeah its fun I suggest it for a rental or with a group of friends cause it hits its funny points Cody is a great writer and it shows here. Over all though it falls flat due to the fact that ladies and gents like the bare naked ladies said: its all been done before.
Finally, the trailer to “Zombieland”. Some of you may have heard about this but Woody Harrelson told the media that he attacked a TMZ reporter because he was still in character, and thought the guy was a zombie. Nice try, Woody!
Alright, I just got back from the theater, and I’d like to give some quick thoughts on Terminator Salvation. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Thought it was way better then T3. I’m not just saying that to bash on T3 (I actually thought it was pretty good), but Salvation is just a better movie. The action is scenes are very well done, which is saying alot considering this is the same guy that did both the Charlies Angels movies. The man defiantly knows how to handle an effects heavy production like this. I dare you to watch that interstate chase and not say ‘wow’. Sam Worthington has chops man, and surprisingly steals the show from Christian Bale. Honesty in my opinion this was more a movie about Sam Worthington’s character then a movie about John Conner. And any time you put Michael Ironside in a film, I’m so down. There were also alot of nods to the three previous films, I don’t wanna spoil much, but it was pretty awesome. I know some of the early review were pretty negative, but I don’t get what the reviewers are getting at. Salvation’s biggest problem is that everyone keeps comparing it to T2. I’m not knocking T2, it’s about has close to flawless has any film can be. I love it. But everyone keeps saying, “You know it lack the *insert comment here* found in Terminator 2″. Get over it. It’s not T2. NOTHING will ever be T2. T2 was a different kind of action movie then Salvation. If you go into this movie understanding that, you’ll probable enjoy yourself. Is it perfect? By all means no, and a few things did bug me about it. None of those things are crippling flaws though. And it was a damn fine movie experience. I had a fun time watching it.
